Fusion - 24 Hour Prayer Days

What's it all about?

It’s a day  where the body of Christ in Newport dedicate 24 hours to intercession for our city. That's it in a nutshell. We pray about issues effecting our city and the people in it. We pray for every church in the city, blessing every ministry they’re involved in. So you can be certain you have people praying for you!

Who can come along?

Everyone! You don't have to pray out loud either. A number of the 'regulars' have never utter a word but pray earnestly for the issues we focus on. Quiet or loud, all are welcomed because it is Christ's face we are seeking together.

The doors of Bethel are open for the duration of this event  so anyone can pop in, even those professing no faith. On one occasion a couple of young boys came in on their way to the park. Leaving their football at the door they came and sat down all because they had heard about people praying and wanted us to pray for their mate who was having problems! We've also seen a man come in so stressed out by family problems he had no idea where to turn, he saw the open door and came in. We explained what we were up to and then prayed for him. God touched him in a way he was not expecting and we could see the difference in him. Also a pastor of a church has turned up at 3 am because he had just finished his accounts and couldn't bear not to join in.

When did it all start?

It all began in March 2002. We felt the need to meet regularly to focus in prayer on the city we wanted to impact. So we arranged a day of prayer, 8am to 8pm, one Saturday. It had such an impact that the leaders realised this needed to continue. We began to plan it as a bimonthly event and send invitations to almost every church in the city (if anyone has been left out we apologise) so that we could come together with a united heart. Eventually this grew into a 24 hour prayer event. Prayer for the City is now in it's third year and God keeps shaping and reshaping it each time, bending it to His purposes.

What is it's focus?

The purpose of the day is to impact our city. That is why we pray for all the churches and their ministries into the community. We pray for God's strength and guidance on their behalf. As our desire is to impact Newport we have given prayer support to Teen Challenge as they evangelise from their bus on a Friday night.

What is the structure of the day?

Each 24 hour event will have it's own specific focus. This will be displayed around the building when you come in. While we would encourage you to use these as you pray we are more than happy for you to allow the Spirit to move your hearts and lead us into intercession. Aside from this there is no structure to the day so that people can feel free to come and go as they wish depending on how much time they can spare.
